B and I spontaneously drove to Fort Langley for ice cream, and ended up at Eighteen 27 instead.
Izzy found the menus yummy.

Besides the delicious menus, the hummus was also really, really good. We ordered a fondue that was pretty good, although the bread could've been fresher... overall, not a bad place at all.
And B actually had to wrestle her away from a martini. That's my girl.

He's going to get all grumpy if I don't mention this soon, so I have to say that my husband made the world's best twice-baked better-than-sex potatoes tonight.
He baked the potato, scooped out the filling, mixed in (I think) sour cream, bacon bits green onions and cheddar, put the filling back in and baked it some more.
Sooooo good. I have requested that they be on the menu for every special occasion meal he makes for me for the rest of our lives.

My birthday was very nice indeed, although celebrating with a baby was VERY different than previous years. B and I packed Iz up and went to EAT! Vancouver, which was pretty fun, but a bit difficult to navigate with Her Royal BabyPants. I probably wouldn't do an event like that again with a baby unless it were a) something I really, really wanted to see or b) I could go early on the Friday before the crowds hit. But we ate some yummy food, saw Rob Feenie, ran into an old acquaintance from the YW, and quite enjoyed ourselves.

My latest obsession: The Crepes of Wrath.
Great photography, and the food makes me hungry. Mmm. Food.

Was in Kits yesterday for a midwives appointment, and noticed that this place opened up a hop, skip and a jump from my old house.
Argh. DO YOU KNOW HOW MUCH TIME I WOULD HAVE SPENT THERE IF THEY'D OPENED UP A YEAR EARLIER???? But no. No, instead it was this crappy, creepy breakfast place that B and I went to maybe four times in the entire 5 years we lived there. Seriously, I am so freakin' bitter right now.
This is happening, naturally, on the heels of trying to go to Blu, a restaurant in Mission I was super excited to find. Fine dining? In Mission? WHO KNEW?? Naturally, when we showed up there, all excited and bouncy, the sign on the door said "Closed Until Further Notice."
Sigh.
Oh well. On the bright side, B took me to BlueStone the other day and it was freakin' amazing. Looking forward to many more yummy meals there. It was awfully nice, after 3 months of pretty much eating exclusively at home or doing fast food, to sit in a gorgeous space and be waited on and presented with new and interesting food. I really am a Kits princess, aren't I?

Last night, a gay man felt up my boobs. I feel strangely validated.
Also, Copper Chimney? Love your wine list, but charging me ten bucks for one little latke is slightly ridiculous. Not that it wasn't yummy and all, and you will always have a special place in my heart for various reasons, but... come on. It's potato, and some other stuff. TEN BUCKS??

The husband and I hit Abigail's Party at First and Yew tonight.
My paella was really yummy... he was so-so on his pork chop. Conclusion: if it were a neighborhood joint, I'd be there all the time and drop more money than the Mennonite in me would ever admit to. As a place I have to cab/bus to... probably won't rush back any time soon.
A good place to meet a girlfriend for much wine and chit-chat though.

Lovely dinner at Baru last night with lovely people... There really is nothing in the world like time spent with good friends, especially with good food and wine involved.
Speaking of which, yesterday afternoon I had lunch at The Five Point with a potential new gal pal. New friends are awfully fun too!
Remind me later to tell the story about The Five Point potentially being evil.
Currently drinking coffee and looking out my window at the rain, with the puppy napping at my feet.
Happiness.

Had dinner at Jules Bistro last night with two rather lovely people.
Jules Bistro is one of the many new restaurants in Gastown, and I would definitely make a return visit. I had Ahi tuna, with roasted tomatoes on spinach, and the husband had fois gras to start with duck confit as a main. Our friends had lobster and crab bisque, mussels, and... I can't remember what she had, except that the scalloped potatoes she had as a side made little orgasms happen in my mouth.
All in all, a lovely evening. There are very few people in the world that make great "couple friends" for B and I, since we are so opposite in terms of who we are and the people we hang out with, but I could potentially see it happen with these two. Good food, good company, good wine.

In light of this really interesting discussion about the CR diet, eating disorders and nutrition, I am feeling unusually thankful for my super yummy lunch today: grilled halibut, grilled asparagus and pasta.
Interestingly, I was feeling a bit this way to start with, as I'm just reading a book about the Mennonites who came over from Russia and the hardship they endured when they arrived in North America. I take stuff for granted too much.
Conclusion: food is a good thing.

Last night I went to Vancouver's latest trendy restaurant, Sanafir.
What I liked: the decor was absolutely stunning. Gorgeous Moroccan-style design, without coming off like a granola-ey tree hugger type place. Candles everywhere, beautiful, ornate lamps and a lovely, warm but sophisticated feel (if that's possible?) throughout. Unique presentation: you order, say, a tuna dish, and it comes out in three different forms in a plate that can be a single entree, or easily a share plate. The waitstaff was ridiculously good looking, okay, so I'm shallow, but they were. The service was excellent. Yummy wine (Yay, Malbec!)
The only drawback: the food was good, but I wasn't knocked off my feet by anything. Maybe my standards have gotten too high, or maybe my expectations were high because of the incredible decor. Everything was... good.
I'd go back, but I'd probably just drink wine, soak in the lovely atmosphere and save my food money for somewhere cheaper and tastier.
