Buffy vs. Edward Cullen

And THIS is what I've been trying to explain about the lameness of Twilight.

(Yes, I know everyone's been posting this, I just never watched it until today. Brilliant.)

So as lame as I might be about the whole Buffy obsession... yes, I know it's lame, and goddammit I'm going to revel in it with every fibre of my being... at least I have never gone through all the Season 6 Spuffy Sex episodes and combined them into one long, 8 minute YouTube video of Spuffy porn.

....I might, however, have watched it a few times.

*cough*

I'm back from L.A.!

Behind the cut: many pictures, many words. You have been warned.

Glitter and Glue Guns

So basically, the last two months have kicked my ass.

In December, I had a miscarriage, and came to the incredibly difficult decision that it's time to pull up my Kitsilano/Pt. Grey roots and transplant them in White Rock. The holidays, although wonderful and joyous, were also filled with a variety of mood swings as I dealt with those two things. (Oddly, the idea of moving filled me with a lot more sadness than the miscarriage did... well, more extended sadness at least.)

January happened. No sooner did I start to feel like I had recovered from these two things, and come to terms with the White Rock decision (Crescent Beach... so cute! So near the ocean! So not suburban cookie cutter hellhole!), than the husband received the rather shocking news from the doctor that he has diabetes. Although I have every confidence that this will be a very manageable situation, it still frankly sucks balls, and the last week or so has been filled with a lot of Figuring Out What This Entails. I spent a bunch of time being scared for him and had to be physically restrained from throwing out every bit of white rice and pasta in the house.

So yeah, I've feel a little chewed up and spit out by life of late. BUT! This morning I had a posh brunch with my oldest friend at Bacchus Lounge, and we drank super pricey mimosas. And in the afternoon I had coffee with one of my closest friends and bitched thoroughly about the world. And tonight Karina had the Buffy girls over, and there was wine drinking, and crafts, and glitter. And Spuffy sex. And a very, very cute dog that I narrowly escaped taking home. And there are still flowers on my dining room table, albeit somewhat wilted.

So this whole life thing doesn't suck at all, really.

Had drinks last night with two women who have become amazing friends of mine, one of whom is part of the Buffy group. After dinner and half a bottle of wine, she presented me with a Faith action figure and the first four issues of Season Eight....the Buffy comics that pick up after the TV series left off. And all I can say is HELL YEAH.

Joss has done it again. I spent this morning lounging in bed with coffee and toast reading them through, then turned around and read them again from start to finish.

Will I be running to the comics store today to pick up five through eight? Why yes, yes I will be.

What? I am totally a grown-up.

So on Saturday night I had the Buffy girls over to my house for board games and Buffy episodes.

One of them showed up with these:

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Yeah. She searched out high-rez images, designed labels, soaked the labels off of other wine bottles, and slapped these suckers on.

Geeky? Yes.

Freakin' AWESOME? Also yes.

I opened the Spike wine first. Of course.

Buffy: You want credit for not feeding off of bleeding disaster victims?
Spike: Well... yeah.

Any Buffy fans wanna join me and a bunch of other Buffy chicks for the next sing-a-long?

E-mail me if you do, I'm picking up tix on Saturday.

Also, work was good today. Life is oddly calm and stress-free, and has been for a while, which makes me think I must be doing something wrong.

So about six months ago, one of my work friends presented me with the following piece of information:

1) There is a Buffy board game
2) She just bought it off of E-Bay
3) I was required to play it with her

Since then, a monthly tradition has evolved where anywhere from four to eight of us meet up, have dinner, play the Buffy board game while drinking copious amounts of alcohol, and watch one or two episodes after.

Last night was one such night, and I would like to state for the record that my alarm going off at 6:00 this morning was one of the more unpleasant things I've ever experienced.

That is not, however, the point of this entry. The point of this entry is an apology, of sorts, to my husband.

See, he plays board games. Quite a lot of them, in fact. I won't tell you how many he has, because I don't know, and it would take too long to count. There are lots, and they take up a significant portion of the square footage of our house.

And I have mocked him for them. Endlessly mocked him. Often in public, with a certain amount of wit, in a way that made me seem superior and him seem really geeky. (In all fairness, he is really geeky, and in the interests of keeping my marriage intact I won't comment on the other thing.)

Well, here's payback. An admission of exactly how uncool I really am. I play the Buffy board game. I kinda enjoy it, actually. I definitely enjoy hanging with the Buffy girls once a month.

I am a Buffy geek.

They say acceptance is the first step, right?
